Actually played my Wii last night for the first time in months (yes, i'm STILL bored) and put on Elebits which is a game i haven't played in well over a year.
I have to say it was actually a lot of fun and seems to be one of the few games that works with the wii controllers perfectly. I think i may even finish off the game this evening.
Well it's either play that or continue reading Secret Wars which is rather painful to read as it was written in the mid 80's. Consequently it still contains the golden age of Marvel style writing, so you have lines like 'See how I, DOCTOR OCTOPUS, can evade your blows with ease!', 'Ah but I, the MOLECULE MAN, can shape the very molecules around you and stop you in your path!', 'Desist!, you both should cower before DOCTOR DOOM, for you are like mere insects to me!', etc...
Having a quick scout on gamespot the only game i'm really looking forward to is Condemned 2: Bloodshot and that's not out until March 14th. Guess it'll have to be Dark Messiah which comes out tomorrow, hopefully that'll keep me amused for a week or so.

Tis the season to be a robbing bastard
Take a look at this.
Now bear in mind that the Wii has a rrp of £180, these pikey ass-raping fucktards decide to pile a load of crap with the console and whack it out to you, the poor consumer, at fucking monkey prices.
Gamesbuyer: £289.94, no games, bunch o' CUNTS!
Kikatek: £334.95, 3 games, mario party 8, big brain academy and wii sports, mario party is ok, big brain academy is a cheapo and only good for 15 mins and wii sports comes in the box as a freebie. Fucking leeches. Amazingly they're even selling an ex-demo console for £285.
Even Dixons are jumping on the 'fuck em' bandwagon and selling it for £350 with 4 games, all shit by the way.
The worst culprits are micro direct who are selling it for £352.49 with no games. Bear in mind that this is more expensive than xbox elite with 120gb hdd.
For anyone who's going to pay these stupid prices you need to listen to me now:
They're not that good. They're certainly not worth £350. The gfx are far inferior to the xbox, the motion control is but a novelty that wears off after about an hour and your wrist gets tired pointing at the screen constantly.
There's approximately 3 good games out for it now and none of them have that all-dayer staying power, not even Mario Galaxy.
Wii Sports is good, don't get me wrong, but you'll get bored of it after about 2/3 hours of playing. The golf and boxing are rubbish, the tennis is fun but very simple, it's only really the bowling that's any good.
Save your money until after Xmas, yes your kids will probably be disappointed, after all it's them that make us go out and get raped by these high-street fucks, and smile all the way through it. But these prices are just stupid. You'd be better spending £20 on a load of boxes and building a fort with your kids.
This is like when we had the petrol strike and the few remaining petrol stations that had any left saw the opportunity and bumped up the prices to £1.50 a litre. Of course, when the strike was over these places soon went out of business as everyone hated them and didn't buy there any more. I'd love for that to happen to micro direct and all the other cunts who are profiting from your desperation.

Wii love Table Tennis
Table Tennis is coming out on the Wii in a couple of weeks. You know, the Rockstar version that was a bit hit on the 360.
I'm pretty confident it won't be any good and will be just like tennis on Wii Sports, where you (amazingly) waggle the controller when the ball comes near.
It's good on the 360 coz it's one of those easy-to-learn, hard-to-master type affairs but i doubt it will be very good on the Wii. Of course i could be wrong, but things like that are very rare :D

This is how wii do it...
Online play that is.
And from what i've read, it's not brilliant i must say.
Smash Bros for the Wii is going to have online play, but it's the most basic form of online play i've ever heard of. You've got 2 different options for playing online, playing against friends that are already registered in your game or playing against strangers. Playing against strangers there's no ranking at all and no stats, you won't know their name and you won't be able to talk to them. All they'll be to you is Player 2.
I kinda understand why Nintendo have done this, they're desperate to be the console the whole family can enjoy and this will mean that young kids can play fine against adults without the whole worrying concept that i don't need to explain here.
There'll be no verbal abuse as the wii has no microphone at the moment.
The only shitter is the fact that nothing is ranked so a casual player (which most Wii users are, lets face it) will have no chance against the hardcore players who have completed it within 1 day of getting the game. And who doesn't like stats? 73% of people love pouring over their stats (poor quality joke, i know).
It's a good idea but it's also a bad idea. It's nice for casual gamers but there can't be any longevity there as it's just pushing the online gaming community backwards 5 years.
But then, as you well know, i don't play online coz i keep getting thrashed so this might be the turnaround i want. When i win i want EVERYONE to know my name, when i lose i just want to slink away quietly. Of course no-one knows my name because i've never actually won.

360 drops in price, a whole £30!
Woo, the 360 has dropped in price; £30. Break out the fucking fireworks.
The prices are now:
Elite: £299.99
Premium: £249.99
Core: £179.99
But here's the real kicker, if you want to get the 120gb drive for the premium, which virtually everyone reading this would want, it'll cost you £130!
WTF!
So there's 50 squid difference between the premium and elite, but to finally get a decent HD it'll cost £130? May i be the first to say; 'Fucking rip-off!'. What a sodding gyp.
Everyone will admit that 20gb is bollocks these days, you can get a normal 20gb HDD for about a tenner and 120gb HDD costs (just checking on Misco...) a whopping £31 including VAT. Even a 2.5" HDD only costs £47 (those go into laptops in case you didn't know). So how the hell can Microsoft justify charging £130 for the same thing?
Answer: Because they can!
The key word here is propriatory. Say it with me: Pro-pri-a-tory. It's a simple but sinister word that makes you spend more than you should be doing; every single time.
You just make the peripherals proprietary and then charge whatever the hell you want for them! They house the HDD in that stupid flat thingy that sits on top of the console so you can't use your own, bingo, they charge you whatever the fuck they like.
Pisses me right off, it really does. What's wrong with making a connection for an external hard drive, so you can plug in whatever hard drive you like? Because then they wouldn't be able to charge you £130 for something that isn't worth above £50.
Failing that, give me the ability to backup my information on my 360 to my PC: Movies, Demos, Save games, etc. Really, how difficult would that actually be, they're networked and Media Center works perfectly so it's clear they can communicate. Christ the operating system is made by the same damn company.
At least the Wii went the right way allowing you backup saves onto an SD Card.
The worst thing is, everyone will pay it coz they simply have no choice..
This is another aspect where the PC wins hands down, no-one owns it so there's always masses of competition on hardware, consequently it keeps the prices down.

Wii - it's great and shit at the same time
I got a Wii on the date it came out, first console i've ever bought from day 1 and initially i was like everyone, it was so cool with the pointer and motion sensor and whatnot but 8 months on and what's it like now?
Well, a bit rubbish actually. The gfx are already incredibly dated compared to the pc and xbox, the controllers aren't precise enough to play the games you REALLY want to play (let's face it, we all just want to swing a light saber around) and worst of all, the games have been piss poor at best.
They haven't had their defining game yet and 8 months in, that's a load of bollocks. Zelda was good, but it's just an updated gamecube game. Mario Strikers Charged was speedball 2 but not as good. Rayman? Good in short bursts but nothing special.
Having a quick look at the top few games on ign:
Resident Evil 4: great but a 3 year old game
Super Paper Mario: Update of N64 game, yawn...
Mario Strikers Charged: see above
Madden NFL: Who gives a shit about American Football other than yanks
Scarface: Loved this game until i died near the end of the first main mission, then IT PUT ME ALL THE WAY BACK AT THE BEGINNING OF THE MISSION! I can't tell you how much this pisses me off, so i turned it off in disgust and wiped the disk on some sandpaper to be sure i wouldn't make the mistake of playing it again.
Even the upcoming games don't fill me full of excitement.
Mario Galaxy: Great, just what the world needs, ANOTHER Mario game that plays exactly the same as Mario 64 and is fun at the beginning but just gets too fucking hard and frustrating later on, which is when most people turn it off and don't play it again.
Super Smash Brawl: The 3rd version of the fighting games that plays exactly the same as the first one did on the N64
Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games: You just know that is going to suck the sweat off a dead man's balls
And that's it. There's nothing else coming out, certainly nothing ground-breaking and original. For crying out loud nintendo, you've got everyone and their dog owning your console, isn't it a good idea to make some decent games now?
And while i remember, it's really hard to smoke a fag while you're holding the controllers, with a normal controller it's a piece of piss, you can even drive with one hand while you smoke and drink with the other if you're really good (Like me, hah!)
